Hey people, need a little help here...

I picked up two adult yellow sev's today... The guy who had them bought them from another guy who had fry from these fish many times (but he kept them in RO) since the guy I got them from has had them (in non RO water) the fish have really gone downhill. Lots of small brown blemishes over their bodies and their fins are looking a bit scummy and also the male seems to have some sort of infected eye where there is some grey and some cloudiness although no visible swelling.

Usually I wouldn't keep this sort of fish, but these fish look as though they could potentially be real beauties and I would love to get them back to full health.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Gold severums are a tank bred strain that in now way shape or form need R/O water. Cloudy eyes are almost always a sign of poor water conditions (aka high nitrates). Give them clean water and do lots of water changes and they should get better very quickly.

I agree, there is no need to use RO water, just do w/c every week, and use a good water water conditioner, I would treat them with a Melafix/Pimafix combo, Severums, especially tank bred strains, gold and reds are very easily stressed, just from changing them from one tank to another, and will easily get Ick, and fungal infections when stressed.

thank you guys, good to hear it might be easily solved with just better water conditions.

i'll give it 6-8 weeks in my setup and see how we get on.

thanks again
