I fear I may lose one of my true parrots. He's one of my favorite fish and has always done really well til a couple weeks ago. He's already pushing 7" and I've only had him for about 6 months.

I noticed what looked like a splinter on his lower jaw. It is coming out of what I would describe as a pore. It almost seems similar to when a human gets an ingrown hair. It has been knocked off a couple times in the last couple weeks but then in a day or two it's back. It's red in color. He has acted fine throughout until last night when he started hiding and quit eating. Do you have any idea what it could be or how I could treat it? Here's some pics. I appreciate any advice you may have.

My first thought is parasite, but I'm clueless on this one; try Aquanero Aquanero

I noticed that you have clown loaches, possibly an injury from one of their subocular spines? I suspect that you will require a QT tank, and pull this fish and have a closer look. Then proceed with treatment to cleanse what appears in the pics to be a wound.

Good theory. If this is the case, then it could be a possibility of sepsis from the wound

I just transferred him into a 10 gallon qt. I salted the water too. When I netted him the protrusion came off. It looked somewhat irritated around that area but nothing crazy.

Woke up this morning and whatever the red protrusion is it came back. I didn't have time to get a pic but it's a bit easier to see in the 10. It looks like its fairly soft or gelatinous in texture.

That's odd, if it's getting infected I would think about a course of maracyn 1 and 2 at the same time, if no improvement maybe a parasite treatment.
Could be a type of columnaris.

If it is columnaris you need to act very fast... Keep a close eye on your other fish, it can decimate entire tanks.
Columnaris bacteria can build up hence the name and possibly why the wound is protruding.
Either way in the qt tank it's worth a shot, maracyn 1 + 2 is my advice and fast...
