My ~16inch silver arowana is in a 135 gallon tank with a ~7 inch pike cichlid. Recently, he has stopped eating (this has been the case for about a month maybe). Before that I fed him thawed shrimp and floating cichlid sticks, along with the occasional earthworm, all of which he ate with gusto. Then he stopped eating the shrimp, followed by refusing earthworms and would only eat sticks. I tried feeding him some other foods but he would not eat anything else. Eventually, in the last month or so he has stopped eating sticks consistently, just eating them every now and then, and only 1 or 2 at a time. Just wondering what I can do to reverse this trend. I know that they will often go on hunger strikes but this is why I waited for a month before asking about it. Thanks for your help.

trust me, he will not starve himself
i think its just him being spiffy
he should come back to his sinces
or mabey he dosent like what your feeding him? which i doubt

try other kinds of worms or crickets, mine eats anything though esp as many feeders as he can pile in. dont worry im sure hell come around

I went through the same thing with my Jag.

There really isn't much you can do that you haven't already done to get him to start eating. If he doesn't want to eat, he isn't going to eat and that's all there is too it.

If you have other animals, you might be able to sweet talk your vet into taking a look at him. My vet did a quick ultrasound on my jag just to make sure everything was normal since he hadn't eaten in about a month and a half. Yes I know I sound crazy for calling the vet over my fish, but I own lots of racehorses which tend to rack up rather large vet bills, so the guy was more than happy to look at my fish.

I would recommend you keep trying to feed him little bits every day. One of two things will happen. Either he will one day decide he wants to eat again and start eating and live happily ever after, OR one day you'll find him belly up. The latter option would be unfortunate, but if that's how the story is going to end, there isn't much you can do anyway.

my silver would do that every once in a while and i would then treat him with feeders and he would start eating again. but at the same time feeders were death of him. he was 22in. the feeders were sick well at lest one was so be carfule. good luck.

thanks guys ... he still isn't eating and I'm still trying to offer him various pieces of foods every now and then. For a side note (possibly related), he seems to have rather large white spots covering his eyes, both at the same places relative to the eye position. Any ideas what this could be? And is it related to this feeding problem? I do 30 - 40% water changes weekly and I have not been overfeeding recently if thats helpful information at all.
