i recently have noticed little tiny snails in my sump, how do i get rid of them? and what if there are some in the bioball? and what are they called?

There are a few kinds of snails that are common in aquariums... none are harmful...

They eat waste/debris helping it break down faster and breed like rabbits... actually I think rabbits breed like snails...

There are chemicals you can use to kill them but they are likely to kill your fish just as quickly... I am not a fan of using chemicals to kill stuff in an aquarium where I am trying to keep other stuff alive...

There are a lot of fish that will eat them... but I'm not sure how practical it would be to keep those fish in your sump...

If they are in your sump, I'm certain they are in your tank as well...

Personally, I ignore them... half of my fish munch on them. Some fish with stronger jaws break the shells others suck the snail out... I vacuum 100+ empty shells out of my tank every week as a result of my Geos snacking on them.

i dont think any in my tank if there are should be gone b/c i have 9 geos in there and flagtails

I very very rarely see snails in my tank... but I see shells all teh time...

leave lettuce in the sump and when they climb on in numbers to feed on it just take it out...it wont remove all of them but reduces them faster and safer then any thing else i can think of

i only have a few i think and thanks dragon

having snails in the sump doesnt necessarily mean you have a problem. is it really that bad that you have them in the sump?

idk where there from but there in the sump like really small

hey i have a bigger sump that i wanted to use and if i remove this old sump can i reuse the bioball? and pump? would i need to rinse it in hot water to kill any eggs/snail stuck on?

i have the same problem the snails i have are tiny little brown snails
there a pia cause they like to live in my fx5 and they seem to clog up the sponges
you can kill them with copper, but it has its risks and im not that eager to try it

i never really see them in my tank either, but i have loaches and they probably eat them, any way you might as well live with them cause its almost impossible to get rid of them
