help solve confrontation

My newly made friend tells me he just brought a small mouth bass from another friend. I asked to check it out before he heads home, but after seeing it I tell him its a sun fish of some type. he says bass and I say sun fish. In your experience the answer would be:

Looks like a green sunfish (Lepomus cyanellus) to me.

yeah def not small mouth bass, has the spangles and "ear" marking that sunfish have, still cool fish will be interesting to see how it colors up once its settled in
