THE GARDEN STATE
The fish has not eaten in about 2 weeks. I've noticed these blisters on either side of head. also scales look a little raised. what can this be? how can i treat? i just did a 50% water change and added aquarium salt yesterday.
here are some pics.

anyone? should i throw some antibiotics in before i go to sleep. is the fish doomed. NGT died already this week don't want to loose this guy.

Joel, post it the general discussion page. It might get moved, but more people will see it. Good luck.

Must be my mistake, but I fail to see what's wrong with it, by the pixs...

its hard to see the raised scales, but you can clearly see the blister on the gill plate. after reading oddball's article on bloat, i'm convinced that's the problem. i began treatment with flagyl and salt. also threw in some antibiotics incase its bacterial. thank you oddball for writing that article.

If you can safely does so gently rub your finger across one of the blisters (one of the smaller ones) if it feels like it is filled with fluid or it pops, releasing a transparent to translucent yelowish fluid and making a slight crackling noise it may be a symptom of swin bladder disease. This is one of the less common symptoms of that disease. It can be treated by upping the areation level and dosing the tank with eithe erythromycin or quinine sulfate.
If the blisters multiply and follow the lateral line, especially if the fish also starts to show scales with raised edges, swelling of the abdomen, or pop-eyes then it is probably bacterial dropsy and can be treated by raising the temperature of the tank gradually to between 84 and 86 degrees farenhiet while dosing the tank with either kanamycin or doxycycline.
