Just wondering if anyone could please help me!! Today i was doing a quick filter media check up to see if it needed to be changed. My filter is a Marineland Penguin Bio-Wheel 350 and in it i have 2x normal media filter sponges, and 1x "home-made" carbon (wrapped in a nylon) stuffed behind the sponge. Anyways, i took out the nylon with carbon in it, as it looked Wayyy overdue for a quick clean, so i took a small bucket, put some of the aquarium water in it, than started to rince the carbon off in it.... However, after a few quick seconds of rinsing i noticed about 6 little spiders (about the size of a dime) run out of the nylon and scattering everywhere in the bucket!!! They look black when looking down at them from the bucket, but i put a spoon in and caught one and when i took it out and didn't look too black no more....more like a little brownish or a dull greyish blackish.... But i have NO idea how they got there!?!?!?

I don't have my camera at the moment, so didn't take any pics, but does Anyone know what they could be from?? they are Actually Living in the nylon with carbon and seem to be able to squeeze in and out of it!!!

I've never had this problem before and have no idea where they came from, but i am freakin mortified of spiders!!! They like Live underwater?!!?!?!?!? Never even seen OR heard of a spider that could!!! Scary stuff!!! Anyone know how i could get rid of them too?....

Pleaseeee helppp!!!! I'm like paranoid to go around my tank now, thinking they will jump out at me or something!!! :(:(:(

Hmm don't know what kind of spider they are. More than likely they were some baby spiders hiding there. Were they actually under the water or in a part of the nylon that wasn't underwater?

I boiled the carbon (dunno if that was good or bad though) before i even put it in the nylon, not to mention i rinsed the nylon out as well before putting both in the filter. The entire thing was completely submerged in the water, even when they scattered they wouldn't come to the top of the water without me picking them up out of it.

Below are pics of them, and yes i am pretty sure they are some kind of spider... From what i have noticed soo far is that they are fully aquatic, haven't seem them come up for air not even Once.....when they are taken out of the water they either go into a panic frenzy to get back in it, Or they are dead still... I have also notice they feed off algae and bacteria, as when they are mixed with algae they fly at it and try to bury themselves in it.

There are also a couple videos i tried to take of it, but because my camera sucks, both the pics And videos are not that good of quality :(

How many legs do they have, man? Their heads don't look like spider heads. I'm going to go with insect larva of some sort. Feed them to a bigger fish if you don't like them.

I think I count 6, not 8

They have 6 legs, and i think like 4 eyes, plus antenna things and their legs have little black dots all over them...

I'm seeing six blurs as well. But they are blurs, so I can't be sure.

Good. That means they aren't spiders. Enjoy your little predatory insects. They should love to eat fry and other small meaty things.
