So i have a 90 gallon (been up and running for like 2 months...)with nothing in it and I've pick discus with some schooling fish! So about a week ago i went to my LFS and ask the worker how would i go about starting my tank. She gave me acid buffer to lower my ph to about 6.5 she said and this morning i did a test and saw it was a 6.7. So gave her a call and ask what was my next step she then told me i could go tomorrow and get my schooling fish and add them in and on sunday i could grab my discus. My question is does this sound right? Is there anything I'm missing?

Don't bother with the pH if you going with domestic fish. It doesn't matter for them as long is stable. Also check out simplydiscus.com for more info on discus. Get bigger fish at least 4 inches and get ready for water changes. Good luck

+1 to the above. Discus are extremely hard to take care of at a young age.. Tons of water changes and multiple feedings a day can become annoying, but it's often worth it. If youve never had them before definitely try to go with adults or semi adults. Theyre less needy. Also, reccommended ph should be no hugher than 7 in my opinion. Although some tank bred strains can handle higher, you still wanna mimic their natural environment as best as possible. Especially if they happen to be wild caught. If you dont wanna bother with liquids and constant tests, maybe throw some driftwood in the tank. Great way to soften the water for discus/angels.

if you 're planning to get domestic discus, don't waste $$$$ on that, they just need clean water and stable ph. Mine are in straight tap water 7.8 and have not tested for years.
