So my 30" clown knife has apparently been stung in the side of the head by one of my smaller rays. I found the barb with the tip broken off. His left side of head is swelled up. He is still swimming once in a while but mostly lays on side at bottom. This must have happened around 4:15pm. What can I do?

Well I am not sure if there is much you can do without hurting your fish..... freshwater rays barbs are still reverse serrated just like sw rays, though there may be less serrations in fw rays, it will still cause damage if you attempt to pull it out. As far as the venom in the spine goes.... the only way to help that is very hot water - not something you would put your fish in. Unfortunately I don't think there is much you can do =/

I am not sure what type of ray you have or how big its barb actually gets but you can trim the barb on the ray to avoid something like this again, you can do that with dog toe nail clippers.

Well I think it was a 8" Leo that it came from. Knife is still kicking. I'm just sad he's 5 years old and raised him from 3" to 30".

Just turn the lights out and hope he makes it! Not much you can do....

Didn't make it 4 hours later. Barb tip stuck in corner of jaw.
Pushing 30" 5 years old. One of
My babies that I'd never get rid of.
