I have a soon to be empty 55g and i want to transfere my loaches from the 150 (african cichlid, loach and catfish tank) to the 55g. Right now the 55 has tahitian moon sand, two big chunks of mopani driftwood and a piece of driftwood on slate, a few amazon sword and some java moss.

Equipment is a 350 biowheel, 250W stealth heater and a 200gph+/- powerhead and an air pump i want to remove. I'm planning to get another biowheel soon, just have to save the money.

Currently i have 8-9 Clown loaches (1@1", 1@2", 5-6@3-4", and 1@5"), 3 yoyo (2@2" and 1@3") a burmese border @4", a peacock eel @5" that's getting it butt kicked in the 150 and a 3" madtom catfish in the 150 along with 13 african cichlids.
I want to move at lease 4 CL, 2 yoyo the border, eel and matdom to the 55. I'd like to move all of the above mentioned fish if i could and add a dojo loach and some hillstream. Am i being too optimistic? i have already thinned out the 150 down 13 africans, 2 plecos and some big snails but i feel there is too much competition for the bottom. I cant move the africans so id like to move the loaches.

You cannot add the hillstream loach and dojo with the botiine loaches. Temperature requirements are very different. If you do not have any more tanks, rehome those coldwater fish. Keep the kubotai, yoyos, eel and clowns in the 55g but you must remember to increase your tank maintenance frequency especially with 4 clowns involved.

so you're saying i should go with the 4 CL, 2 yoyo the border& eel in the 55 and leave the others in the 150?
Coldwater: are you talking about the madtom and pleco? if so, they are going to the pond soon

Hillstream is a cool water sp.

Yes. The clown loaches can reisde there temporarily. You know how big they grow in a few years time.

I am talking about the dojo and hillstream loaches. I cannot comment on the madtom as I never kept one before. What species is your pleco? If you live in tropical climate, then the pleco would be fine in the pond.

yes, im quite aware of the potential for a Clown loach, Im mainly trying to give the loaches a better suited environment and take the load of my 150. I will put them in the 150 when they outgrow the 55.

I keep my pleco in the pond during the warmer monthes because i dont have algae in the tanks.
