Help stocking 55gal

I picked up a 55gal off craigslist with stand and all for 50 bucks couldn't resist the deal.. now can't decide what to stock.. I have decided on a CA/SA Cichlid but what... Either a pair of Convicts or maybe some firemouths.... Any ideas or suggestions are welcome... So what do you think would go well in a 55? I will not decorate until i know what I am puttin in it.
 
It really depends on what you're looking for, aggression wise, rareness, color, size. Just find something you like and look them up, find out basic info and if you like it, get it. You can get about anything that is 10" or less

Well I want something aggressive enough to be entertaining. I was thinking maybe a pair of cons and possibly a pair of fire mouths. Will it be too cramped? I know cons tend to bully tank mates.

A pair of cons may claim the entire tank and from what i have heard a firemouth wouldn't last against a con. You could do a pair of green terrors way more color than cons

Convict tend to be more aggressive toward other cichlids that's why your gourami, corys and follow fish were safe. Trust me I have bred convicts and kept them for 17years and I have seen just about ever scenario, they are my favorite cichlid. A pair of convicts can take over a whole tank if it's follow tank mates are timid, I suggest going with 3pairs of convicts in that 55gallon and enjoy the fun. Mix it up a bit with a black convict pair, pink convict pair , and a calico convict/hrp pair this is fun I had 4 pairs of convicts in my 55 gallon and I could look at that tank all day just make sure u put tons of rock formations and flower pots.
