Tell me what you think of this stocking list of my soon to come 450 gallon tank. Note that this is not a final or definite list. These are just many of the fish I would like to have. Fish listed here may be totally eliminated from final tank, or the numbers of each species altered due to compatability or room. Note also that these fish would all be adult or close to adult size. No growing in should be factored. Comments and criticisms are greatly appreciated. Insults are not...

Florida Gar x3
Silver Arowana x1
Senegal Bichir x1
Ornate Bichir x1
Delhezi Bichir x1
Endlicheri Bichir x1
Clown Loach x5
Tinfoil Barb x5
Redfin Prochilodus x5
Satanoperca Jurupari x4
***Datnoid x2 (not counting these in final count)***

Total Estimated "Fish Inches": 428

Oh, one question. I love datnoids, but have never kept them. I know they are ideally brackish water fish, but I have seen them in pure freshwater tanks. How are their needs as they age. Can they adapt to live a healthy life in just freshwater?

id say good choices but why not add a shoal of something predatory instead of tinfoil barbs?

Regarding Datanoids, if it comes in fresh water and keeps it colors in freshwater, you can keep it fresh water. Post pictures of this badass setup please!

I think that would be fine, my only concern would be somebody eating a clown loach unless you were able to get really big ones (I'm thinking the gar or aro here).

The only dats that are found in brackish water naturally are silvers (Datnioides quadrifasciatus) and new guineas (Datnioides campbelli), and both do well in freshwater, if not better according to some people.

Indos (Datnioides microlepis) Wide bars (Datnioides pulcher) and Thin bars(Datnioides undecimradiatus) all reside in freshwater and shouldn't be put in brackish.

Personally I wouldnt add the 3 gar because they get big, and I wouldnt want to have to deal with trying to find them a new home when they are 5-6'. Also the inches of fish doesnt really mean anything bio wise.

Other then the gar everything else seems good, what kind of filter(s) are you going to run on this bad boy?

The clown loaches will be 10" minimum, and I have seen them defend themselves with those switchblades under the eyes. I like Dr. Z's advice of a predatory shoal, but short of piranhas, I can't think of any. Also, I will have a W/D with a 150g sump, and double fluvals fx5 (for now). And what do you think of clown knives?

a huge school of Paradoxus Exodon would be cool!!!

Those things are little demons. My high school marine bio teacher bought a school of those things, and they killed everything in the tank. Then they killed each other. By everything I mean plecos, african cichlids, and a beautiful baby ornate bichir. This all happened in less than a week, because he added them friday, and there was only one survivor on thursday.
