Hello,

New to the forum:)

I'm getting ready to replace my 30gal with a 65gal and wanted some stocking suggestions.

In the 30 I have a male geo red cap and a female chocolate ciclid. The geo is about 5" and the chocolate is about 4"---the geo keeps trying to breed with the chocolate, and is harassing the **** out of her. I'm not sure if I should completely start over or keep one or the other. Both are stunning fish and quite fat and sassy.

I love fish with personality that will interact with their owners. I also like getting them when they are young and watching them grow.

In my other tanks I have parrots who are wonderfully interactive. They line up at the side of the tank when they see me in the kitchen. My large female even taps the tank lid to get my attention.

Any suggestions.

The red cap might be fine on its own in the 60, but they prefer groups of 4+ and there would definitely not be room enough for a group in there.

The chocolate will also outgrow the 60 and need to have an upgrade to at least a 90 eventually.

Two or three cichlids that won't reach more than 6-8" could live comfortably in the 60 depending on aggression levels. Just two cichlids under 8" would make plenty of room for a bottom crew and some dithers.

Been looking at fish and information on them------this is what I'm thinking for my 60 high:

1 Thorichthys Maculipinnis
1 Andino Acara Latifrons (blue arara)
1 Krobia Zinguensis

With some Rasboas as dithers and a hairy nose pleco for the bottom.

Does this mix sound like it would work? Would these fish be happy as the only one of their type in a tank??

The Krobia and firemouth would be fine together. The blue acara will be hit or miss on aggression depending on if its a true blue acara or a hybrid GT mix. The true blue will likely be fine, but the hybris are often aggressive.

Skip the rasboras. They will only end up being snacks. Go for something longer and deeper bodied. Buenos Aires tetras, lemon tetras, giant danios, and black skirts are all good options.
