So heres the deal....i have a 75 gallon tank with 3 4" senegal bichirs, a 5" tiger oscar, and a 5" BGK who i just picked up today at the LFS. Within the next year i plan to build a 300 gal. Previously the oscar has been a great tank mate to the senegals, i have had him since he was about 2". The past week he has gotten quite aggresive towards all the fish in the tank, no marks on the fish just alot of nipping. i know that the bichirs would be fine with him b/c they are quite hearty but my main concern is BGK. Now my plans are to trade the oscar to my LFS tomorrow and begin deciding what i want in the tank with them now. i would like something that gets a nice decent size and that would get along with the BGK.
Just a thought.....how do you all think a true giant gourami's temperment would be with the fish i have now?

Also, what about other types of knives, like a clown knife.

What are your opinions on what i should put in this grow out tank?

I've kept Silver Dollars, Angelfish, 4 Line Pim Catfish, Clown Pleco, Eels with my BGK... He is 5" right now. Just like you I've had him since around 2". They get along with most fish, as long as they aren't too small or too agreesive.

I have 3 Sens, 3 Delz, and a BGK with a few Pearl Gouramis.

I have severums , angels and silver dollars , featherfin cat and cories with my BGK . All except the sevs have been together since young ( over 2 years ) .

So i just got back from bringing my oscar to the LFS and have to admit i am a little bit sad. i know it is best for my tank though. i am not a big fan of angel fish, and the normal community fish (corydoras and such) that BGKs get along with well just arent what i want for my 75 gallon, i already have a 30 gallon tank that is a community and this 75 is my grow out tank. i am consedering the severums, however they just dont seem to get big enough fast enough. i have enough bottom dwellers in this tank and it looks empty, i need to get some mid to high water level dwellers. i am eventually going to get an arrowana, but they grow quickly and ill have to wait till i get about 6 months away from having my 300 gallon complete to get that!
i got this tank because i want BiG (oscar size fish) with my bichirs. The oscar i had just wasnt working with anyone in the tank.

Any other suggestions are very appreciated!

So as i see it now (unless someone has any better ideas) these are my options:
- get some severums and silver dollars (cool fish but just not big enough for me)
OR
-Take back the BGK and try some other cichlid besides an oscar.

Really lost with what to do!

In my tank, I have 4 polys, and a BGK, also have one giant angel fish, I have 2 leopard ctenopomas, 5 gold barbs and 3 white skirt tetras along with a gold gourami. But you don't care for any of those...Hmmm. What about Discus? They get to a pretty good size. They chill in mid to upper water levels. Bala sharks? Yeah, I'm out of ideas. Good luck to you.

Discus are awsome fish, they are a little too delicate for my taste, and im not really wanting to go with a fully live planted tank which they would need to be happy.
Bala sharks i will keep in mind. Hmmmmm......does anyone know how a true giant gourami or maybe a frontosa would work?

some silver dollars or a few pictus cats :)
