I've never kept stingrays before, but I'm gonna get 3 of em'! I've never kept peacock bass before but I now have 5, and maybe 3 more! I just set up a 115 gallon in my office today they will go into once it's ready. I want to know the good substrates to use for them, and the opinions about which ones really make the stingrays colors come to life. Also, where are the best places to get a pretty large amount like I will need? Thanks in advance...

That tank is too small! For that stock you would need 500+ gallons. You need at least a 200 gallon to keep rays in my opinion.

What type of rays are you getting? Order a 300 wide tank and you will be golden for keeping 3 rays of any type and a couple bass. Your going to need a wide tank for both bass and rays. And that tank will work as a grow out setup but not very long. You will need great filtration though and be good with water changes. I like the Carib sea torpedo beach sand, great as it does not stick to the rays so they are seen best but also gives them a place to hid when needed. A bare bottom would work well also if you like the look. Males stay smaller then females as a tip.

Thanks for the educated advice; and it's well taken. Maybe I'll do a nice little 115G reef tank behind my desk there and use the 300 coming as a grow out... That should be good for about 2 years?

That sounds better. I got 3 rays, 5 bass and a oscar in a 220 now. Hasnt even been a year and i am ordering a 450 for them soon. Probably going to have to sell a ray before i get it though.

Did you order a 300 tall or wide? Either way they will be fine for a couple years but the wide option will be good for life more or less, especially if you get males that stay on the smaller size, but also depending on what type of rays you get some stay smaller and some sure don't. I have one female here that is about 12 inches in 10 months time. Also a male of same age that is only about 6 inches.
