All,

I need some advice as my biggest Tem is swimming upside down. Heres the story. My Tem has gotten too big for my tank so I decided to take them over to my brother's 400 gallon tank. They have been there for almost six months now. Just the other day my mom heard two crashing noises from the tank and then my Tem started swimming upside down. Tankmates are three monos, another Tem, and a Australian Arrow. My brother said that he still feeds when my bro drops cut shrimp in but he's just swimming upside down. This is prob due to a problem with the swim bladder. Any help would be appreciated as I had this guy since he was 2-inch. He is now over 15-inches. Help me as I don't want to put him out of his misery. My brother was saying that we should take him out and put him in a smaller tank as in the big tank its tooooo much pressure on him and he will not recover. In the small tank, the pressure would be much less and he will recover. Help????

sounds like you should put him in a smaller tank-let him heal. I dont know how to deal with swim bladder related problems, but putting him in a separate tank sounds like the right move. Im sure some experts will chime in.

i would check the parameter first. i guess it could be pressure related, but i ration it wasnt too long ago his ancestors swam in bodies of water of much higher pressure.

i think i remember reading something about lowing water levels/ or pressure as being a temporary fix to swim bladder problems, but the pressure its self isnt the problem. so dont be convinced its the pressure thats the cause if it seems to get better in a smaller tank

He could knock his head hard, thus, lost control/getting disoriented. The condition may not be reversable. Putting him in a smaller tank won't help him at all. It may harm him in a way that he may bang his head more on the wall or lids.

The small amount of pressure in any tank under 20 feet tall wouldn't make a difference in swim bladder problems. Test the tank parameters, make sure the tank is at 80+ F, and do more water changes.
