I have 3 filters. An XP4, AC110, and a penguin 280. I cleaned the two HOB filters and NOT the canister. I also replaced two large plastic plants that have been in the tank since it's inception, it was loaded with growth (and Iam sure bacteria). Anyway, all the fish look good. The Ammonia is pretty high..I need to lower it fast. I think I lost my parrot last night due to the ammonia levels. I am changing water like crazy..Something I can grab at the LFS?

50% daily water changes and double dosage of prime after the water change.

Did a 50% wc and doubled up on PRIME....check it again tomorrow. Went on vaca...maybe my son overfed them when I was gone. But here are my parameters...Amm-2.0, Ph-6.4, NO2-.25. Before I went away my parameteers were perfect. Not sure if it was overfeeding or cleaning too much filtration at one time and removing some artificial plants at the same time.

How long was the dead fish in the tank? Could be a possible source of the ammonia.

Could have been a combination of things. Norm ok?
Norms good. Got an eggcrate divider in there and the rest of the parrots are in with him. He's scared to death...serious wuss! Though I cant figure out what happened. just hopin to keep the uaru's and the huge heart shaped parrot goin. wc, wc, and more wc's....now my nitrites are high. Its like my tank is cycling again.

maybe 4-5 hours...at most. but it looked like my senegal started munchin on him. bderick...this has got me frustrated as anything!! any ideas...btw, my nitrites are climbing also...almost like its REcycling.

It might be if you took out too much of your BB...I think its usually called a mini-cycle since it doesn't take as long on account of still having BB in your tank (substrate, decor etc) and in the canister you didn't touch.

When you cleaned the HOB's did you rinse the media in tap water? Replace the media entirely? I would say with that many filters just clean one at a time and it shouldn't matter if you outright replace everything in it, the other two should be able to keep up with your bio while it regrows. Otherwise, leave your bio in-tact, rinse media with tankwater and replace as little as possible.

Thats my .02, I don't know much though.
