Dempseys have teeth in the back of their throat. He should work it out on his own. You can try removing it, but there's a chance you may do more harm than good. What was the size difference between the two?

However, just out of curiousity, what was a Ram doing in a tank with an EBJD?

THANKS for the help man never had this problem i took it out and he is fin i put some nls in there and he went after it eating it immediatly

I don't think the EBJD just snapped. I understand your thinking in that, they been together for awhile. And true... stranger things have happened. But I do think that was an inevitable end for that ram, once the EBJD got big enough to fit it in it's mouth.

Hope you get a chance to share some pics of that EBJD!

EBJD IS 5 IN AND THE RAM ABOUT 1.5 '' THEY HAVE BEEN IN THERE TOGETHER FOR AWHILE AND THE EBJD HAS JUST SNAPED

Rams and JDs have different water requirements...

That said, one thing to keep in mind, is if one fish fits in another fishes mouth, at some point it WILL.

My JD finally hit the 4" mark, then started terrorizing the tank! She ate my 1 1/2" Yo yo loach  ..........ggrrrr :irked: and couldn't save my Yo yo. JD has it's own tank now. I don't think I'm putting any thing in it's tank that fits in it's mouth unless I intend it to be it's food. ;) I don't much like buying a $4.00 supper for my fish. :grinno:

The EBJD is lucky no damage was done, Rams have pretty high rays & that what probably got caught up when he was trying to chow down on it.

I'm surprised the JD was successful getting the loach.
They're pretty quick, & have those little barbs on their sides to protect them from possible predators.
Maybe the loach was dead or close to death so it wasn't much of a challenge...
Or it chose a really bad time to play dead.:D
