I have about an 8 in tire track eel. Ive had him for about two months and been feeding him earthworms, krill, and bloodworms. He was doing fine until i noticed a white lump in his side about two days ago. Now it has opened and looks like something is sticking out of it (really nasty), but the is also a lump on the opposite which makes it look like something is stuck there. Does any one have any advice as to what this might be or what i should do. He's in a 38g tank with a smaller fire eel, a larger cichlid, and two plecos. No other fish are showing symptoms of anything unusual.

u can c something poking out of the wound and there is a lump on the opposite side of his body? could he have swallowed a barb or small stick/splinter some how

all it looks like it a red lump coming out of his side and theres like a white string looking thing on it and like i said the bump on the opposite side, but i cant tell what the object is if there is actually an object there and i dont think it would be a stick or anything like that

if it is an object do you think i should try and get it out myself or just leave it be?

oh my god, i just saw it and its a staple....hes getting caught on stuff everywhere

a stalple thats not good your proubly going to need to remove it what you should do is buy some clove oil be carefull thow it needs to be the right kind i thinks its clove bud oil that will kill your fish but with the right kind and amount to sedate it you should be able to remove it if it's not bent if ben't try to straighten it as much as you can before removeing it then add some malafex and hopefully i'll pull threw i don't know if it could come out on its own if things get bad and it's going to die you can skip the oil and try to remove it but it may be hard eel's are VERY hard to hold on to when they don't wan't to be held but the best case would be its the right kind of staple and it rusts away like a fishing hook but Don't count on that

it actually turned out to be a small fish hook I have absolutely no idea how it got in the tank, maybe it was in the krill or something but i have no explanation. However the hook actually just came out itself it got caught on a piece of wood and the eel got it out but now should i add anything to the water to help heal the wound or take any special precautions

Do plenty of water changes. It is a must. You can add Melafix if you feel it necessary to do so.
