Hi all,

We've purchased a small group from a LFS, the group was labeled as G. Jurupari. Clearly they are not but what are they?

It looks similar to a few geo species we have looked up, it could be a form of G. altifrons not sure then from which river system. Picture wise it looks a lot like G. pindare.

The pictures are only of the biggest one we have, he is about 5" long and we've had him for about 6 months now. He started around 1.5". The other 4 have not grown as fast, they are still all close to around 2".

Hey stlfishlover, does your nickname denote that you are from St. Louis, MO? If so where did you get these? Been looking in the area for some Altifrons for a while.

Yes, we're from Missouri....
We got these fish at Lynn's Pets in Wentzville, MO although she did have them labeled as G.Jurupari....... Beldt's Aquarium in Hazelwood, MO occasionally has some "assorted Geo's" also that look very similar to what these guys looked like when we first got them.

Ive frequented Belts for over 15 yrs so I know where they are. I talked to them a few months ago about those or some others and they said all they have been able to get are Jurapari or Brasiliensis. They could have gotten some Red Heads but he told me it would cost them to much to sell in store and make money.

Do you know of any good lfs's in the St. Charles area?

Pet's Plus in St. Charles, owner's name is Joe... he is pretty good about trying to get in certain fish for you if you ask.... Lynn's in Wentzville is also ok... she will also try to get fish if you ask her, but takes her way longer and seeing as how she had the Geo's labeled you kind of take your chances... we did get some nice looking Cacatuoides from her before though.

Might also try Tropical World Pets on Watson Rd in Crestwood/StL area I believe... they used to have a good selection of SA also I think.

Thanks. Know Tropical World, been going there for as long as Beldts if not longer.
One of the best places to get SA/CA in the area.
