I saw this cute little monster I buy stright without second think:grinno:.
It got something look like a horn near the ear.

its a very stressed out polypterus endlicheri. the horn things are actually its juvenile gills that it'll lose over some time. hope that helped!

they grow to be about 2ft or more
 
oh Thanks for your fast reply. I though the horn thing will stay forever....it would be cool if it stay forever....anyway why there are some polypterus endlicheri(not some but a lot) do not have the horn thing when they are younger then the one I bought?

Depends on the individual fish,how big is yours,doesn't look too small.
 
depends on oxygen content. Bichirs in low DO water would tend to keep their external gills for a longer time.

really ? i thought if the water param kept in good condition would prolong the external gill.

The main purpose of the external gills are to help juvenile survive in low oxygen water. Now if your tank is already well aerated, the bichirs would be able to breathe properly by itself, hence rendering the external gills useless.
