captive bred P. endlicheri endlicheri in japan. most are juveniles (with the external gills, which will be gone when they grow). the 'white' ones with no stripes/patterns are leucistic individuals.

I think I just got one of those this afternoon, also with the external gills raised up, quite nice.

Do they grow up large eventually as compared to other species? And, how popular and rare are these as compared to other species.

Thanks in advanced!

endli that one kinda looks like a short body

they get alot bigger then most polypterus they will get around 30'' can get bigger but it takes a while there not common but not rare at the same time still a cool poly if you have a big enough tank

they are also captive bred in indonesia, which is most likely what yours is since you're in singapore, right? they are quite popular there, and quite common too since they have been farm bred. But since they are much more available in asia because of the farm breeding, people there are also paying more attention to the quality.

overall a very popular species, particularly in Asia.

in aquariums, expect 18"-24".

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I think you are right. It is common among our arowana community in SG to mix them with our arowanas, they can really grow big, thick and stocky.

Yes, the LFS I got it from used to have the on and off.
But at S$38 at 4 inches, is it considered high price?
And, what is the most sought after bichir?

i don't know what the average price is in SG. in the US, that's a great price. maybe ask on arofanatics i'm sure members there know if the price is right. in the end the important thing is that the fish is worth it to you :)

I feel every cents worth it, when it first caught my eyes with it's gills high up, I know straight away I want to get it, interesting gills and the intimidating postures with it's snake like flat head.
