Can anyone tell me what the fish on the left is? My husband netted it at Packery Channel on the Texas coast and since we just moved to the area, we are not familiar with all of the fish yet.

The fish on the right is a needle fish, we use them for bait when fishing for large snook here in Florida. The fish on the left looks like a snapper, not possitive of the type, maybe a mangrove, but not sure.

the fish on the right is actually a halfbeak, it is just not a very good picture...my cell was the only camera we had at the time.
several ppl had said that the other was a grouper of some sort, but it does not have the body shape & the head/mouth isn't right -- snapper was my guess, too...just was not sure on the type.

The one on the right is actually an Atlantic Silverstripe Halfbeak. The one on the left is either a type of grunt or snapper.

Dogtooth Snapper, Lujanus Jocu. We catch a ton in Punta Gorda, Fla on vacation. EVERYONE calls em Gray Snapper. But I beat those natives and I'm 13. The other one is a Halfbeak of some kind. lol

the Mangrove Jack AKA Mangrove Red Snapper, is a Tropical Pacific species.
