need help with a transfer to the new tank. how should i go about doing so without my 750 going into a mini cycle or not having enough bio?

im going to be picking up a 750 gallon 10L x 4w x 30 H. currently my tank size is a 265 with a 40 gallon sump and 2 fx5's

my stock consist of
4 marble motoros - 7-12 inches
6 IT - 6-9 Inches
1 NTT - 11 inches
1 BLK aro - 14 inches
10 clown Loach - 5-7 Inches
1 soft shell turtle - 4 inches
5 Orino's - 14+ inches

the new tank is coming with a 180 gallon sump and a ultima filter. but the tanks been broken down for about 2 months. so there is no bio in the 180 gallon sump or the ultima filter.

my idea was to save practically almost or all of 265 gallons of water from my old tank. use the sump from the 265 to the 750 gallon, while having the 180 sump also running. and using the 2 fx5's also in the tank.

any ideas? any would be great since the move will be happening this weekend. Thanks in advance

seems like it would work in theory, since your not adding more stock to the 750. I would use some prime for adding more water to the 750. Where would you put all of the fish while you are transfering water? but since the FX5's are already established and same with your sump they should be able to support your bio load etc.
Hmmm id say it would work but there might be others who have a more educated reason why it should fail if it has the chance.
Things that come to mind would be the water parameters. How long would it take for the filters to adjust the water so its safe. I would skip feeding them for a while or keep it to a minimum.
Use prime for the first few days so its safe for the fish.
I'd say just move all of the water from the 265 into the 750 but do not fill the 750 up all of the way. slowly add water to it over time or wait til the 180sump has established. You could implement seachem stability when you first add the fish to the 750 that could speed up the process.

I think you could even skip the transfering of water as long as the water you use is the same for both tanks as long as you are moving your sump and canisters.

I went from thirty to a 125 with african cichlids. I just filled the tank added water conditoner let it warm up for a few hours to get it as close as possible. Then just moved fish and established filters. After a few weeks I just removed the two smaller filters and let the big ones keep running. I didn't see any mini cycles. But I would let someone a bit more experenced chime in if thats always ok to do.

i did other moves before, but nothing that deals with this amount of water. i moved a 12 to a 40 a 40 in to a 160 and a 160 into a 265. im just afraid of adding approx 600 gallons of water to a 200ish established gallons of water would be okay. this is why i wonder if it will cause a mini cycle.

As long as you move the filters, the amount of water will be irrelevant with the same stocking.

Good luck

thanks for the help. guess i will just do the move and pray for the best outcome

Transferring the water will not accomplish anything, except possibly add some nitrates to the new tank. If your current tank is cycled, and you are just transferring your fish and your established filters over to the new tank, your big tank will be instantly "cycled". With the larger water volume in the new tank, your nitrates will be diluted and raise more slowly than in your smaller tank. Your plan is a good one and should work well.

Sounds like a super fun transfer and an awesome new tank. Nice stock as well. WOuld love to see some pics :)
