Right need some ideas and help! In the summer my fish rooms is being ripped down and rebuilt all new power etc the idea being I want to build a tropical pond as I cant get the size tank I want in my house. I need some help I have never had or been involved in a tropical or indoor pond, I need some ideas also how feasible is it to put a glass panel in the front of it. what is the best way to line the pond and what else do I need to know this project isn’t happening for months but without your help maybe not at all. If any of you have any plans or pic of your build or friends would help a lot. I was thinking of 6x6x2 as will fit in well any feedback will help good or bad……..

Howdy,

I moved your request to this forum, you might find some answers here.

There are tons of info on the web...have a Google search. As for the liner, you can use regular pond liner and silicone the glass with this liner. It has been done, I have seen it on the web and have heard of it on MFK. I would rather build a plywood tank, use epoxy and fiberglass to line the tank, and silicon a nice window in front of it.

Glass is possible, not a problem. Go to the GARF website in the DIY section and punch in your numbers...will give you a head start, plans, etc...

6x6x2 would be very easy to build, nothing extravagant in the size. If you like to view I suggest you build a tall stand so it almost eye level...will be a pain to clean but a sight for the eyes :)

Edit: more links for you...
Could look like this but not as tall...
This one was for stingrays...so looks like a pond.

Hope this helps...and if you want more links PM me I have a bunch as I am also working on a tank ;)

Go back to the start page of this forum and change the display setting to 75 days, you will find several threads that will help.

How about making the walls of the pond with cinderblocks cemented together. And then line the inside of it with 2X4's. After that put a pond liner into it and staple it to the 2X4's. Thats the most economical idea I can think of.

One thing that I have found helpful is to cap the walls with a lip that overhangs the pond by a couple inches, there are several fish including plecos that tend to slither up and over the edge otherwise, inground ponds can slope slightly back towards the pond so that is less of a problem but above ground ponds can lose fish that way. A mosquito netting canopy velcroed to the lip can easily be pulled out of the way when you are viewing the pond and resecured when you are not and it will prevent the loss of jumpers.
