i just purchased this stand from a member here.

so here's the issue. the surface of the stand, where the bottom of the tank rests, is bowed. the middle is a bit higher than the left and right side. so basically, the tank is sitting in the middle or "teeter tottering".

the pictures were taking when the tank is filled up half way, and the tank is still "teeter tottering". then i emptied it worrying it might damage the tank.

so question is: will it damage the tank? shoulde i setup or consider it a loss?

Just shim it.

Not a big deal at all it comes with the territory. Your local hard ware store will have bags or bundles of HARD wood shims for 2-4 bucks. Get some and fill the tank up 1/4 to add some weight and push the shims into any gap every few inches and snap them off. Just push them in until they are fairly snug.

$4 and 10 minutes = problem solved

Or scrap the stand and buy one for a few hundred.

Its your choice.

Yes it'll damage the tank and no, I don't think shimming will work in this case and neither will styrofoam because it's not an end to end problem, the top itself isn't flat. My husband and I have made several stands and this always happens. Just take a belt sander and get it perfectly flat so the tank frame sits flat and you can't slip anything bigger than a card between it and the stand.

Those are decent size gaps on both ends. I would think that that much play would cause stress on the tank. I personally would not use it as it is. Maybe add another sheet of plywood that is shimmed so it is flat.

Your tank is acrylic? If so you must have a flat level surface or you can split seems.

Does the same condition exist at the front of the stand? If not I would remove and cut the vertical board shown in the third pic, this MAY fix the problem.

thanks everyone for your input.

it might be too much trouble for a plywood stand. i might just sell it cheap or give it away. who knows.

Bderick: yes, its acrylic and i also was told from a fishtore owner that it will split the seem w/ this setup.

how about this:
lay a sheet of plywood on there and fill in the small gaps with some type of filler?

or use foam & plywood?

would any of this work?
