Hi guys, one of my fronts has developed a condition which looks like bloat. Firstly, is it possible ? Can frontosa get bloat ?

Its abdomen is really swollen, almost twice as wide as rest of the body. He/she is feeding well but swimming a little laboriously. Its about 4.5 inches, only traces of a hump and about 1.5-2 years in age. None of my other 17 fronts in the same tank have this condition. Could it be about to spawn ?

I'll try and post a pic also but first I'm separating it from the main tank.

Please help.

Thanks.

Temp? Water parameters? Diet?

Temperature:
26- 29 degrees C

water parameters:
pH : around 8 - 8.5 (consistent)

Diet:
Dainichi: XL Pro, Ultima, Colour Supreme.
Massivore pellets (not more than once a week)

Was giving some floating foods like dried shrimp and arowana sticks but stopped about 2-3 weeks back.

Hikari Cichlid Gold.

Water is clean, constantly filtered with weekly 30-40% WC.

Yes fronts can get bloat. Pictures would help.

I would add in salt and heat the water up some, if he doesnt have bloat. He may just need some help getting out a massive poop - Just a thought (I am sure my thought is prob. wrong but it does happen so I figured I throw it out there).

On another note if he is pooping, what color is it? If its white then its prob. bloat.
Is he still eating? Fish that get bloat usually dont want to eat.

yes it did seem interested in food 2 days....he has this condition for about 4-5 days now...
could'nt look at is poop....i have managed to separate it n keeping him in a drum, with an air pump and heater attached to it.

be careful with too much protein for fronts... maybe now try the peas in with something to get him to eat one so it acts as a laxative... hope he is doing better..the massivore is good high protein food... but if a front ends up being a glutten instead of sharing it with others there is always the problem of protein overload which causes bloat and constipation... i am always tempted to feed mine a couple but i learned my lesson when i saw the same one eat all three..lucky he was okay.. hope yours will be too..

thats a great idea liz, will def try peas...

and should i feed peas or even spirulina flakes to the other fronts???
you can try.. either one.. or even broken up algae pellets ..anything in vegetation form would help.. hope all turns out well.
