I'm so upset. One of my Sens is VERY bloated!!

He was fine and happy when I went to bed last night at midnight. All he had to eat was two gups that had been quarentined for over 2 mos. and maybe a Hikari pellet or two.
I've done everything to the letter so I'm completely confused and very worried!!

He is swimming around frantically with his butt in the air. Belching out air like you wouldn't believe. Along with some Hikari food remnants.

Does anyone have any idea what could have happened??

There is no gravel in tank so it can't be that. Just did a water change of 50% two days ago. Water is crystal clear.

Is this something that will resolve on it's own? I don't want to lose him! I'm very attached to this fish.

I have had similar problems...And although i do not know the cause, my actions seemed to work...

All i did was, when i noticed any bloating, i would not feed the poly in question until he/she passed what ever was clogging it up...As i just figured that adding to the clog would only make things worse...( this may mean isolation )

Sure enough, after a day or two, my sen would pass the blockage, and unlike my others, i would notice that the stools were chalky white blobs, rather than dark....

So i def would isolate the poly, and not feed it until it hopefully passes the blockage... Im sure the others may have some more in depth advice, but i hope my 2cents helps... :(

x2

My poly's have had it multiple times and it never lasts more than 2 days. No need to isolate it IMO.

yup this used to happen when i used to feed them tubifex worms
now i don't feed them that anymore, though it sounds funny it ain't funny to look at my fish in discomfort

LOL

I feel alot better now! Thanks Beblondie! What would we do without you? :D

The Sens got back to his normal "width" about an hour after I posted.

I just couldn't imagine someone being that bloated up with gas!! OUCH!! * Cringes!*

Oh yeah, food might be the culprit, but they are not fed tubifex worms.

Their total diet is:

PREPARED FOODS: Hikari Sinking Carnivore Pellets, Aquarian Sinking Shrimp pellets for bottom feeders, Tetramin Variety Wafers for bottom feeders

FROZEN: Brine shrimp w/ Spirulina, Bloodworms, Beefheart, Krill

LIVE: Guppies and(sometimes) White Clouds, Ghost Shrimp, Earthworms,

FRESH: (Grocery Store) Raw Shirmp

*Just cannot find Silversides ANYWHRE!!*

I have had problems with krill clogging the pipes of my fish. They just gobble the whole thing down and then they are not digested because of their exoskeleton. Maybe that was the culprit. (Mine were freeze dried though)

good to here they are fine.
