I found my most beloved fish this morning, my 10" endy, laying belly up in his 150g tank. I was absolutely crushed and had my boyfriend fish him up. Turns out he' still breathing!! Checked him for any visible injury, nothing. All other fish are very active and all the water parameters are normal. Did a 25% water change the day before yesterday, we have very good water where I live but I always treat it just in case.

His feces are partially transparent and red, very jelly like. I'm suspecting some typ of constipation or something. :( He seems to be coughing every few minutes and keep jerking from time to time.

He's fed once a day, his diet consists of small shrimp(I pick the shell off), blood worms, salmon pellet, feeder fish and pollock. His tank mates are one small oscar, three Chinese suckers, two stingrays and four angelfish. I do two 15 - 20% water changes a week and have two powerful filters.

HELP!! :(

Sounds like an internal infection that needs anti biotics as soon as possible

We have a huge animal hospital here, I called them. With a fish vet on the phone he instructed me how to give the endy a massage to clear out any possible constipations. Got some bubbles and mucus out, that was it.

They do take fish in at the hospital. The x-ray alone is $320. So if I want to take in my beloved endy, I'll have to pay $800+.

I work a lot and we have the money, but can I put that much money on a fish I'm not sure will survive? He really means so much to us. Been crying so much over this, and even my boyfriend broke down.

This is just awful... :(

I feel your pain:(... Not knowing what to do really sucks...

$800+ seems harsh, especially as it will not g'tee your endlis survival...

Hope it all works out for you!

See the big problem is Here in the States you walk into a lfs and you can buy damn near any medication you need in other countries you need to visit a vet or pet hospital, and get a prescription.I have no idea what you can get from a shop in the way of medications guess I need to find a way and make a list ,Im soryy we can't help you more but I hope it makes it -Anne

Yeah, thats the problem. I have to get the prescripton from the vet, and it'll cost me a couple of hundred. I'm actually thinking of going in tomorrow. My boyfriend and I will be taking shifts tonight to monitor him. We just love that fish so damn much.

Good news everyone!! He's responded to an equivalent to myxazin that I got ahold of, HUGE thanks to beblonde! He's started to move slightly, and shows signs of body and fin control again.

But we've been in contact with the fish expert at the Blue Star Animal Hospital and he's taken quite a liking to my bichir baby, so we'll be progressing with some more powerful and specific diagnosis and treatment, and after that rehabilitation.
