i went to the lfs today and got another filter for my 29 (been cycling for a month now)...i was going in to get my breeding pair of convicts, but the fish guy told me to wait until tomorrow to get them...because all fish are buy 2 get 1 free on sundays..and im getting 2..he said he'd reserve the adult breeding pair of convicts for me, but what should i get as the 3rd fish(free). once again they'll be in a 29 together..thanks for anything

I have a breeding Convict pair in a 30 gallon fish tank, they will not let anything live in there. Unless it is a larger cichlid that will out grow a 30 gallon at all. I have a Green Severum that is larger then them growing out in the tank... he managed to hold up.

honestly i think a 29 is too small for a pair of convicts due to they have lots of fry and when hatched they need to stay with parents for some time to give them the best chance to survive and with 2 parents and fry it will get crowded quickly. Why are you wanting to breed them anyways? They take forever to grow big enough to be feeders and you will spend more money on raising them then you'll get for them at a lfs...

heh, if the 3rd fish is free...get the most expensive/rarest one in the store!!!!! joking...yeah, breeding pair of cons would kill most fishes in living with them, even fish much larger then them (they'd tag team and harass them to death)

i am raising them for feeders for my gt and 2 oscars...they're all about 4'' living in a 75 gallon....and i would have to disagree about them being more expensive to breed then buying them in the store...here in any store the cheapest ive seen them in a long time is $4 a piece..for any size..and they usually only have 1-2'' ones..but i got lucky and am getting an adult pair for $4 a piece

:iagree: The 29 isnt really adequate for breeding the convicts not enough room for a 3rd fish they will kill it
