OK I'm running this Fluval on a 55 gallon, using the pads, carbon, and biomax. Bottom 2 baskets are carbon, top 2 biomax. Anyway it seems like some particles are making it out of the filter, is there something I can put in the baskets that's finer - do people use floss in there or something like that? Just looking for suggestions. Tank has been up & running for almost 3 months.

mines been running since january, clean it twice a month for some reason with 2 filters running my crapload is amazing. i crammed all my carbon into the bottom basket, have floss jam packed into the second matrix in the third and purigen with floss in the top. It works amazing but i have to clean it alot but my tank looks good so its worth it.

Ditch the carbon.

In my 404 I have floss in the lowest basket, then Biomax in two of the upper ones, and one stuffed with pot scrubbies. I clean it (replace the floss) approx. every 2 months. This is on a 90gal mixed SA also with a AC110 running.

Burt:)

Fluval 304 and 404 running a 125g with 1 Mangrove Jack. Bottom basket of each filter is crammed with poly. filter floss. next basket has carbon and ammonia chips, third and forth baskets have bio-rings. Ammonia=0 Nitrite=0 Nitrate=5ppm.

couldnt agree more ditch all that other stuff i just run sponges and polyfill in all my tanks and sometimes ceramic biomedia but thats about it

Thanks guys, I was thinking I might want the floss. I've always used hob filters before, always floss, and never had any problems. I probably would have gone hob again except I had the 404 sitting brand-new in a box (bought it for turtles but never used it). I was hoping it was just the media I needed to mess with...
