Help w/possible prego green sunfish

Hello. New here so I apologize of this is the wrong area....just looking for help.
Hello, my son has 2 green sunfish. (So we think). We are thinking one is pregnant. We have had them separated with a divider but recently they kept knocking it down & jumping sides. The bigger one is looking bulky & trying to avoid the other one. The other smaller one is pestering it or scraping all the sand off the bottom of the tank...we are thinking its trying to build a nest but does not have enough sand. Any advise on how to tell if spawning is happening or is they are stressed? Need to seperate etc.
 
well...the fish won't technically be "pregnant" but it may be holding eggs and sounds to be like you have a male building a nest like you said. I would take the divider out and watch them to see what happens. I'd also put some small river gravel and extra sand in the tank.

Ok I'll go see what I have to add. Man these guys can really redecorate a tank!
 
that's definitely a nest on the right side. add sand and smaller rocks and see if they lay eggs or not. would be interesting for sure!
