Hey people,

I really need help here, i've been trying to setup wireless internet at my house and i just can't seem to get it work. I have tried EVERYTHING and made sure i've done everything correctly. THe only thing i'm unsure about is the cable i'm using between my cable modem and the wireless router. Does it have to be a special type of cable e.g. RJ45 its the cable the router manual tells me to use but I am not to sure if its the same thing as the cat 5e cable i am using now, which i normally use to connect my cable modem to my computer. Am i doing anything wrong?

THANKS

rj45 is the connector at the end of the cat 5 cable.. It is the standard size for copper LAN connections. Now, can you get into the router at all? What is actually failing? What part is not working? Do you have connectivity? Are the wireless NIC drivers installed?

My wireless PCI card came with a program that i use to connect to the wireless router. I can connect to the wireless router (by typing in a ip address that is given to me in the manual) and do the setup but after i've set everything up i still can't access the internet. Another problem is that even tho the wireless router is in the next room no more than 15 feet away from my computer the signal can be weak at times.. It also says there limited or no connectivity...

thanks for the help clay

if your using a cable modem make sure u have the WAN setting as dynamic and make sure u have working DNS servers

i hate computers

I'm using some unknown brand called X-Micro. Bought if off ebay. I think the main problem is. i have no problem connecting my computer to the wireless router so i can configure the Wireless settings, but i think the problem is when the wireless router trys to communicate with the broadband modem.

Clay where you at?!?!?!

1. get a linksys wrt54g router......
2. If you cant, go into the router, and find the status on what IP it is getting from your cable modem/make sure it is getting one, if its not, either cycle the modem...or click "Renew IP"
One thing I've learned is to stay away from ****ty equipment, and I think your current router falls under that category, along with netgear and most D-Link. IMO

I was suppose to get the linksys router but was sold out when i went to go purcahse it. So annoying. anyways thanks for the help i'l ltry those things today after i get back from uni.
