I have a 75 gallon tank with an Eheim 2217 and a 300 watt heater. I have the dial on the heater all the way to 68 and the water is 90 degrees! Do you think that the heater is broken or I need a weaker heater.

MAIN Question: What is the best wattage for a heater for my tank??

I use a 300W Hydor inline external heater on my 75 gallon. It connects to the canister hose and is much better than a regular heater.

Take the heater out and remove the lids to let the tank cool off.

I have a 75 and run 2 250w jäger heaters in my overflow. It's a bit overkill but I like the redundancy.

The heater is broken. It does not matter how powerful a heater is it should only cycle on and off at the temp it is set too.
