Anyone knows what the black freckle looking thing is growing on my loaches? it's spreading on all my loaches? Did i pick up an infected loach that spread to the rest of my community?

I tested my water and nitrite, ammonia, and nitrate are all normal. They are swimming and eating normal but the freckles are killing me.

I am curious also. Maybe some kind of fungal infection.

What I see on the fins looks like ammonia burns, what size tank and what are your water parameters?

Another indication that it could be water issues is all of those loaches coloring looks washed out, which with loaches is a sign of stress.

it's currently in a 135 gallon tank and will be moving in a 225 gallon in a few weeks. I'm not sure what you mean by water parameters. I'm still new to the hobby. i tested the nitrite, nitrate, and ammonia and they are all normal.

i'm sure they're stressed because i barely bought them recently from a fellow MFK'er.

I did a lot of research today and it seems the black freckles are caused by the water condition and drop in TDS (total dissolved solids). I bought a tester and will see what the conditions are.

I'm hoping this does not spread to my other stocks.

I wish more people knew more about this problem and can help. =(

be careful with the TDS tester though, make sure its calibrated or it will give you a scare like it did me at my lfs
