My 118 Gallon Tank sprung a leak tonight :( I got it off of craigslist and its an old tank so I guess I should have expected this to happen. I drained the tank and put the fish in tubs of water for the time being. I am planning on selling the setup, and hopefully someone who knows how to re-seal tanks will be able to get some use out of it. I am replacing the tank with a new one, but I cannot afford to get another tank the same size. I want to buy it new so that its guaranteed, so I will be getting a tank of about 90 gallons instead. I am trying to keep as many fish as I can, but I realize that some will have to be re-homed.

My 118 gallon held the following fish:
Oscar
Salvini
Pearsei
Vieja Synspillum
Uaru
Rotkeil Severum

I have a 75 gallon CA setup and that is stocked with the following fish. I am willing to part with all of them except for the pair of Nics.

1 Pair of Nics
Green Flier Cichlid
Jade Eye Cichlid
Firemouth

I am wondering which fish from my 118 I can put in the 75 gallon with the pair of Nics, what I can fit in the 90 gallon, and what I will have to re-home. I appreciate any advice that you guys have. I have had such a hard night and I am really upset with having to part with some of my fish.

Thanks,
Kate

throw the uaru and the salvini in the 75 for now. For the others..?

Being in socal you should be able to find another tank relatively easily for cheap. Just go over any used tanks before you buy them..

Thanks for the advice. I'll try putting the Uaru and the Sal in the 75.

I did look over the tank well when I bought it, but its been up and running for over a month now. I don't have a vehicle large enough to transport a large tank either and a Uhaul cost me about 150 when I bought this one and I can't afford to pay that again. I would just feel better getting a tank that is guaranteed under warranty in case anything happens.

Sorry to hear about your tank!

I am looking at a big tank soon and totally am looking at a new tank with a warranty. When your dealing with large volumes of water you just want that peace of mind.

If you can move the decor around to break up any existing boundries and give the uaru and sal an opportunity to establish themselves.
