help!!! white srings and cloudy eye over night

myfish were fine this afternoon as far as i can tell... tonite i noticed they are all sick....
they have a white film over thier eyes and silky white tassle like tings hanging from around thier eyes and the nds of thier finss...
what could it be? i thought ick but i have never seen any like this that comes on so quick...
i got the tank for free froma guy..it had a convict in it at the time... he was covered in the same thing but i thought it was just because of being neglected and it went away after a water change and a good scrubbing of the tank...but i guess i was wrong.... what is it??? what should i do???

Put them in a quarantine tank with clean water. Something in the tank is contaminated. I don't think it's a pathogen, but a toxin in the tank. Get the fish out ASAP, put them in a bucket if needed and add some cycled gravel if you have another running tank.

The only thing I would suspect is silicon. Maybe strip it out and reseal it.

Are you using the same filters and heaters that the guy was using?
