ok guys, i have a 5" tiger shovelnose catfish i got from rescue and i have him in my 37 gallon spare aquarium. I can not put him in my 200 gallon as he is way too small so he is in my small 37 gallon by himself. He is very skinny and need to nurse him back to health.
2 questions
1) will he be ok in the 37 gallon for a little bit until i can get him healthy again?
2) Should i keep him by himself in that aquarium?

Yes & Yes but once he outgrow the 37 move him to the 200
But hes def gonna need something bigger than a 200gal in the future IMO..

Yes, i am going to try to bring him back to health and keep him.

oh yes, i know he will need more room once he reaches 12-14 inches i might find a good home for him as i might not have my pond by then.

***37 gal is plenty for a 5" TSN for a while, depending on the footprint dimensions.

2) Should i keep him by himself in that aquarium?

***Well, right now your 37 gal is a hospital/quarantine tank. After he is adjusted, well, and eating well, I think he can have tank mates with the usual precautions.

Kudos for saving the fish.

+1. Congrats on your new TSN. Mine is about 7" now...love him!

update guys, i am setting up a 125 gallon aquarium i got off craigslist for $100, so he will be going in there. he should be able to live in there long enough for me to get the pond setup.

Excellent. Just test the tank first. Sounds almost too good of a deal. You may find you need to strip and re-silicone the joints, which is simple, just a bit laborious... but hopefully it holds the water well.
