guys i have a 55 gallon tank setup that seems like it could use more...

there are only 1 jack dempsey and firemouth they are both 1.3 inch counting tail so i was thinking i could add more fish. i had a con but he she got nuked.. :nilly:

any suggestions i was thinking about gettin some dithers probably danios, swordtails. or barbs .

if my options are really limited should i go with africans. im just worried they would get boring compared to ca/sa but opinions and picks appreciated.

Also would a syno be to big for a catfish in my tank i dont want a wet pet so suggestions appreciated.

How about a gold nugget or a bristlenose pleco + a smaller cat like a Striped Rapheal or perhaps you might prefer to add a senegal bichir or delhezi into the mix. Just a couple of ideas.

For the long term I think you have more than enough fish in there now. I wouldn't add anything else at all.

Nice first post and welcome to MFK, Al'thor.

Nawky, as long as you have sufficient filtration I see nothing wrong with the advice I gave you. You would probably have better compatibility with the pleco and/or small cat recommendation. GL

wow both of you guys are on your first post! We gotta a lot of MFK newbies around here today.

Thanks for the welcome! Probably a bit arrogant to dish out advice on my first post, but it was one of the first threads I came across. I'll try to be a bit more diplomatic on my future posts....:)

Africans aren't boring I would say. They are very active; always up to something. I use to have a 55 gallon Mbuna tank that was very entertaining. Africans are very different from New World cichlids in several ways. Just do some research and see what type of fish you'd rather own.

Well i was planning to go to the fish store today. So you guys think i can only keep a 1 inch dempsey and 1 inch fm in a 55 and 1 catfish no other cichlids or dithers?

You can add some dithers for more tank movement until your cichlids grow but they'll probably soon start to disappear when the JD puts on a little size.

Well...right now I just started to figure out what I want to do with a 50g that I have. I'm doing an African Oddball Tank. I have an African Brown Knife and 5 Congo Tetras. I was thinking of getting 7 more Congos and a Delhezi Bichir.
