Umm well ive got this pond. its approximately 8x4x6 ft . 5000 Liters is the capacity so thats around 1438 galls. its shaped like a lotus leaf. N the problem i need help is as follows.

I have Two 1.5 Ft Tiger Snakeheads , One 10 inch Alligator Gar which i want to put in this pond. but i know they r gonna fight a lot, n eventually end up killing. So tell me a good solution on keepin them. should i divide the pond with a glass block or sumthing? n wots the best substrate for this? sand?. Do i need a Filter n air pump??

Note : Can i keep a pair of Rays with them ???

I don't use pumps in my lakes. I use a lot of plants. So, if it was me i would try to use a lot os plants and starting to put only one fish inside. If everything ok than had another and son on.

The plants will give all the O2 they need.

Regards

thanks buddy. ill use loads of plants then.

Divide the pond with plastic fence or egg crate (plastic) I don't know what you have available on the island.

I think these fish are too large for plants only in this small of a pond. A small pond filter (diy or commercial) and a waterfall return or air bubbler for aeration would suffice.

Don't put rays in with these fish, one missed meal and you'll be missing a ray, possibly even if the ray twitches at the wrong time :(.

How about some pix?

I'll second to not mix rays and Snakeheads. A buddy of mine had a few in a 125. When they got hungry they would nock the bricks off the top of the hood. They can and will eat anything when they get big. And at 1.5', they can probally already do that.

ok thanx all for the replies, ill divide the pond with plastic then. oh n at the moment i dont have a filter or an air pump dat wud suffice a pond dat size. so plants will do for the moment ryt?? ill post pics as soon as i get em. and wot kind of filters n air pumping do u recommend??

Lots of plants are better than nothing.

What's your budget?
In pond or out of pond?

If your a DIYer look at some of the DIY koi pond filters...

You could modify this one

Here's a good read on air pump types and why.

well lets jus say ive got a budget of 0 to 400 USD. n thanx ill chk the links, n will this stop the pond water from turnin green n algae growin?? i jus got a 3.5 inch TSN , which side of the partition will it be safe? the two snakeheads? or the gar?

Plants will use up the nutrients so the algae have nothing to feed on and die.

If you already have algae cover the pond so NO light can get in for 4 days and reduce feeding to a minimum (NO peeking). What your trying to accomplish is breaking the algae's life cycle and starving it.

After this put the plants in.

Roommate for the TSN... neither. Divide the tank into thirds and give the TSN its own room. As soon as any of the other fish get comfortable or hungry it's gone. It's just bite size now. Give it a chance. :D
