Hi Everyone!

I'm new to this forum, but am stoked to have found you all b/c I have had a question regarding my clown knife for quite some time now.

I "inherited" a 2 1/2 year old, 8" albino clown knife a year and a half ago. I think he was severely stunted in growth and until I got him, he had been being fed algae wafers his entire life.

Since I have adopted him, he has grown 4" and is now eating beefheart, tubifex (and other food he steals from the other fish in the tank -- 2 clown loaches, 3 pearl gouramis, 1 brushynosed pleco). Back when I first got him, I was feeding him loaded guppies and mollies I was breeding specifically for him... but it became too much of a pain so I stopped with the live food.

The last live fish he ate (about a year ago) was a betta. Someone brought it over and dropped it in the tank without me knowing and fessed up later. The problem is, ever since he ate that darned betta, he has had a protrusion poking out of his throat, right between the ends of his lower jaw. It sticks out almost parallel to his jaw, but points downward when the mouth is opened. It is approx. 3/4 the length to the tip of his mouth.

Has anyone ever heard of something like this happening? I have asked several aquarium "experts" around here to no avail. He is obviously healthy, having lived a year with it and is still a voratious eater... I am just so curious as to what is wrong with my poor deformed knife!

Thanks!

Could be some sort of infection? Does it look bloody or have white blotches? By the way, Welcome to MFK!

I wonder if it twisted a gill arch

???????????????????? Guppy, are you a fish doctor or something? Ichthyologist? Or are you an actual fish speaking from first hand experience?

Guppy: "I twisted my damn Gill Arch today. Does anyone have some cyclobenzaprine?"

I just had a bluegill do that once on a crayfish, I don't know if it is fixable, the bluegill got fed to a marbled goby
