a petstore close to me recently had a price drop in clown loaches... compared to the normal $8 each... their $5 and $3 for p.sengal with a membership card. i have a tank set up with 6 convict / texas juvies their about 1inch - 1.5" does anyone see a problem with adding 4 loaches and 1 poly to that tank as far as harrassment ?

how bigs the tank?

right now the juvies are in a 20 long with a aquaclear filter aswell as a marineland bio wheel that used to be on my other tank... i have an available 40 gallon tank i just need to get that a heater and a sponge for my DIY filter intake since it likes to suck goldfish.

i think they would be fine for now. the sooner there in the 40 the better. i would say the only problem would be the cichlids aggresion towards each other.

as long as ive had them the only aggression they show is towards blood worm cubes  i was mainly worried about the clown loaches if i was to get them.

An undemanding fish, the Convict alone should make it appealing, however, its belligerent attitude towards other fish makes it most suitable for a species aquarium. This will probably begin to happen as the become older. I wouldn't wait too long before puting them in a species tank. As they become old enough to breed, they will pair off and they then become real defensive and territorial.

Worried about clown loaches? I would not put them in the same tank as the convicts.

well if they are affordable i say get a bunch of clown loaches and use them as feeders :D

think of it like exotic food:naughty:

if that doesnt appeal to you then before you convicts start to pair off give them their own tank. keep in mind the loaches will hang low and that means closer to any convict nest where ever it may be. (and in a 40 gallon their is no where to run)

Is the sale you are talking about at Petsmart? I just got a bichir there for 3 bucks. Cool little guy. I am going back tomorrow to try and find clown loaches.
