DALLAS
I have had a Pacu for the last 8 years. He's in great health, but unfortunately he's outgrown my means. What is my next step with him? I live in Dallas, and can't find a suitor for my fish. Is there a society that would take him, should I find a zoo, or is there anyone on this web site that has the means to take good care of my buddy for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

how big is he I would take him into my tank in nyc but that depends if you would to ship him? I recue these and redtails started a year ago I have room for him and friends...

I feel for you. Brutus was 36" long and 22 pounds when he died. Very few aquariums will take them. Contrary to what most people believe what goes into the tanks at various aquariums is planned well in advance. It's a very unusual situation if you can find one looking for a common Pacu. I remember speaking with Mike Bryce (the guy with the 50K gallon aquarium on this board). I asked him if he would like to have Brutus (much smaller then) for his aquarium. He summed it up by saying, "No thanks. I have a Pacu?"

Good luck.

Monsterfishrescue.com....I had no idea how big these guys got when I purchased mine. This was the last fish I ever purchased without researching first. I currently have mine in a 150gal and they are about 6-7inches and growing more every hour! Anyways, I did a little looking around and came by this company. It is a fish adoption company that will take anything, any size. But it might cost you some $$$. Look into it. I hope the day never comes where I cannot house my fish, but I hope to upgrade way before then.

try calling the dallas zoo. last time i was there i think i recall a large aquarium with riverine fish..

all the lfs-non petco/petsmart fish stores around here all have huge pacu's advertised for free. kinda sad cause they never can get rid of them even then..

If I had to guess how big he was I'd say 24" by 16", and 5-6" thick. I've been feeding the guy by hand for the last 6 years. He eats all kinds of fruit and vegetables. How do you ship a fish? He's so big, I don't know how we'd do it. I'll try to post a pic of him. My tank is kind of in disarray right now. I have a 100 gallon aquarium, and he got fired up two night ago, and darted back and forth across the tank, destroy the rock structure in there for the Frontosa I have, and swung his tail, and hit the glass top to the aquarium, breaking it, and the light and it's casing above. This damage doesn't even mention the water that was on the floor afterwards.

how about a local aquarium you can donate him there if they have a fresh water setup for all to see
