It's a bit of a sad subject for my second post, but I really need as much advice and information as I can get on this.

I added an albino BN to my 80G goldfish tank about two months ago. He was doing great for the first month, active if a bit shy (he adopted a 'cave' formed between two pieces of mopani driftwood). I did end up having to treat the tank for flukes while he was in it, and made the mistake of adding some salt at %0.1 as usual along with prazi pro. Upon finding out that plecos often do not do well with salt (I should have looked it up before hand, I realize), I stoped and did another %50 to reduce the saltyness, and only treated with prazi from then on.

This was a while ago, and he still was doing well. But about a week ago he started to get less active during the day, and seemed to hang out around the filter. I assumed he was becoming more nocturnal, as he otherwised seemed fine and was still eating. My quarentine tank was currently occupied with a small ryukin who did need some salt treatment, and I did not want to move him in there.

However, this morning he was sitting listless on the bottom, seemingly paralyzed except for some shallow breathing. He seemed somewhat swolen, but not quite pineconeing. I did an emergency switch with the ryukin in QT as it was only a few days from completeing QT, doing a complete water change on the tank. He's just finished adjusting to the QT tank. In the little tank I can see what looks to be a small air-bubble like blister. I'm afraid he's on his way out, but I want to do all I can. Or, at least, prevent it from happening again.

The readings on the main tank are 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrates and 0 Nitrites, and the PH is stable at 7.4. Any ideas?

I've never had an issue with salt in any pleco tank, so I highly doubt this is what caused the problem.

I'm guessing you don't have a heater on this tank if it's a GF tank. While ancistrus are one of the most tolerant plecos of lower temperatures, anything below room temp for extended periods of time could be the culprit. What's the temp of the tank?

It is heated, at 25 C (77 F). Most of what I read stated that plecos are sensitive to salt, but as I've never kept plecos before, I'm not too sure about how sensitive they are. It was a low dose.

It's hard to say. All of my plecos are in salted tanks. They're perfectly fine. No growth stunting either. They're all active and eating tons.

As long as the water parameters are good. I'm not sure what's goin on with your pleco. Good luck tho.

I have had salt with all types of plecos even large amounts with never an issue. Have done this hobby for many years let me assure you not a salt issue at all. All those mend s could be hard on it. dO A 50 % wc on the quarantee tank and leave it alone in there. Why are you treating the goldfish? Those guys are pretty bullet proof. Secoundly goldfish and plecos don't really mix. Goldfish need room temperature and plecos like it near 80 degrees.
