Okay, so I went to my local pet shop today and saw an absolute steal. A baby arowana for $20. I went on the internet and read they go for a whole lot more usually. My tank is 150 gallons and I plan on having also an oscar and severum cichlid in the tank. The pet store guy told me they wouldn't attack eachother, and that I believe. But I'm not SO sure about the fact that my tank size would be okay, as he said. I read I need bigger, and that sounds right, but I'm still not sure. I'd reaqlly like to get one if I could. What do you guys think?

Likely a silver aro and 20 is not a steal of a price, more like average. A baby aro need be kept by itself until 5-6" and not mixed with the fish you suggested until 10-11". Depending on the dimensions of your 150g a silver aro will outgrow that tank in about a year.

Thanks everybody, I guess that does it then, no arowana for me. I really just wanted the Oscar and severum, so that's alright.

Definitely need a bigger tank in the future, Silvers are the largest bony tongue fish that get big fast and can get to a whooping 48 inches in the wild and maybe in captivity if you give it the space it needs to attain that size.

its always sad to hear that fish are going to be too big for your tank, but give the 150 your all and get a bigger tank for your aro down the road! the way i see it, if you cant find another aro in the future that you think is a reasonable price, it isnt meant to be. thats just the way i like to look at things!

Yeah, I'd love to get one but I can sacrifice that to keep it away from my small tank, as I see no larger tank in my future for now.
