I am going to be setting up an aquarium once I move in November. I'm hoping for a tank that's 55 Gallons or larger. I have been researching and looking for various types of fish. I really like the appearance of the blood parrot cichlids, but know that they are aggressive. What other fish could cohabitate with them? (I know they would have to be around the same size). Also what is the process for nitrogen cycling the tank? This is my first large aquarium. Thanks.

Hi are you new to the hobby? If you are then I recommend for you to read this stuff, click the links!

This one is about for the beginners guide,

This is for Nitrogen Cycle,

And for the tankmates you are somehow wishing for is research about some fish that are cohabitants in water demands/water parameters and somehow bulky and may range to the same size of the BloodParrots. If you do so pls pic a pic for us to look at!

First thing you need to do is change the color of your font. Black letters on a dark blue background is brutally hard to read.

Cycling a bigger tank is the same as cycling a smaller tank. Easiest way to learn how to cycle a tank is just go to YouTube. There are some really good videos there with really good explanation on the process.

sorry bout that. lol.

Blood parrots get pretty big, only two of them would fill the aquarium nicely. At 8 inches and bursting with personality, you probably won't need any other fish to be satisfied. If you want you could possibly add a convict cichlid or similar fish, but blood parrots really will fill a 55 gallon well, so long as there are at least three hides per fish, and lots of rockwork and driftwood to break up boundaries.
It's pretty simple, you need some pure ammonia, a wet chem test kit, and some patience :)

Just bring the ammonia to 5pm, and the bacteria will start colonizing, and will break it down. Keep adding the ammonia regularly, and then you'll notice nitrites spiking, and eventually they'll go down too.
thanks

u could even try sumthin else rather than a blood parrot. maybe flowerhorns, midevils/red devils, or even plecos which can cohabitate with te blood parrots. :) sory though for this not-very-good info, but just a suggestion. good luck. and will look forward to ure fish once u've purchased them.
