my house
Hey all,
I have a 125 72x18x25 that i purchased a week ago. It is currently cycling through. I want to make it a fully planted tank. My only problem is that I have no idea what needs to be done to plant and sustain plant life in my tank. what type of substrate and other such things do I need?

if you are doing planted only why are you cycling the tank?

i tink what he means by fully planted is he wants lots of plants :naughty:

Are you going to use pressurized CO2?

You'll need a powerful enough light fixture first. There are various types of lighting that work; T5HO fluorescent, compact fluorescent, metal halide, etc. Expect to spend a lot on the light though; you need a lot more wattage than for just fish.

There are various substrates made for planted aquariums. Fluorite and eco-complete are two of the more common ones.

^^ +1 ^^
do you research first. look up what type of plants you like then look at there requirements and go from there. the more difficult the plants you want to keep the more equipment you will need.

High light plants need alot of light, either T5 HO or MH are your best bet. a plant substrate. some form of CO2/carbon. presurized is your best bet for a big tank. you will also need to look into some form of fertz.

low light plants need less light, T5 HO, CF, NO (thats Normal Output) aquarium lighting. CO2/carbon is very benificial in these set ups but not required. fertz can help but also not required and same with substrate.

alot of you choices will stem off what type of plants you want to keep and how much you want to spend. do alot of research then you can start asking some more questions and get a better idea. look through the Planted tank section or look at brows other forums like plantedtankforum.com
