My LFS got in 3 baby bowfins (3") and I told them to hold them for me. I have a 220gal tank with a bunch of baby monsters but the bowfins are prolly alittle to small to deal with my 5 to 6" arow right now so I'm gonna trade in my exodons and put the bowfins in the 29g tank for awhile to get them alittle bigger before joining the mob in the big tank.

My questions are how fast do they grow? What should I be feeding them to power grow them? Best water temp for fast growth? Any other advise you may have for me would be apprecitated also.

growth is decently fast from other members experience, i personally have not kept them into adulthood, but expect 30"+ in size. feed them something high in protein if you plan to power feed.

So are there diffrent breeds of Bowfin? These little ones seem to have a alittle orange on or just behind their gills. Or is a bowfin a bowfin?

if its a true bowfin it is Amia Calva.. google a image for them and compare. for fastest growth i would keep the temp at 75* and feed guppies or other live feeders. i keep my bowfin at around 80* but he is 14" or so and i have not kept baby bowfins. how much is the pet store charging for them?

I'd say thats pretty close to what they look like.
