i got three baby blood parrots from a trade in about a week ago. the thing is i have never seen them with this color at a young age, is this just a normal bp that is not dyed, i was told that there just true bp's, but i dont understand that being there man made. looks almost like there a flower horn cross, either way i like the little guys.

When he gets older he will be a light peach color. The dark red ones don't have black spots or marks when small. I have found out that if you keep adults in poor water conditions they will develop black markings. I had a pair I gave to a friend and he didn't take good care of them and they started to get black markings. I helped him get his system lined out and with cleaner water they went away. Thats not why yours have black marks, some just do as babies.

thanks for the help, i was just thinking it was some weird cross, the main thing that made me take a double look is that the tail fin and the back half of the top fin are filled with green and blue spots.

Normal coloration. More color with age. Poor water quality is not the reason for spotting, it's just the coloring of the fish. Colors will change with mood, environment, breeding, etc, as with any sa/ca cichlid. My female started out like yours, and has never lost her patches. She goes from patchy, to white, to all out flame red when she's breeding. Now she's caring for fry and she's white with black patches. I'm pretty sure that's the rd coming out. It all varies.

BTW, this one should be in the hybrid section.
