I have put the 300 on hold just in case it might fit into the house I am looking for. I thought we would have found and would be in a home by now. So the bluegills, warmouths, catfish and green sunfish are constantly battling now.

It started with the 2 largest bluegills battling and I have noticed that all the younger fish in the 3 size groups had started sparring about 3 months after the larger two. Well the warmouths all rank at the bottom of all the fish. I have a 55 gallon tank that I was going to put fry from Zimmerman's fish in.

I think I need to move some if the fish in the 55 until the move. Here are the problems:
1. My used to be favorite fish(Largest Bluegill 7 inch largest body mass) that watches me constantly and literally gets jealous of other fish looking at me. You know how your fish come to the glass and look at you. Well, he gives the other fish 3 seconds and charges all fish in a 12 inch circle including behind him too! It has become so bad that I will study the fish and the water long enough to see if there is anything wrong, feed them and walk away. If I don't he gets upset with the other fish and attacks. Yes, this is also the fish that shakes his head, when I shake my head.

2.Bottom of the rank: The warmouths. It is five of them, varying from 3-5 inches. They are relatively peaceful amongst themselves. Leaving all the aggressive fish to themselves.

3. Big Blue(2nd. largest bluegill 7inch) he is the fish that keeps all the fish in line because he charges and bites. I am not sure about moving him because he keeps the younger fish submissive to him. He has mellowed down to a 19 from a 20. He does attack and fight my larger bluegill every now and then. He has stopped for the most part because he mellowed. Big Blue used to beat or charge all fish at feeding time and because he just wanted to .

4. Take out all the warmouths and one green sunfish. The green is the smallest in the tank but the last 2 weeks, he has fought the 4-5 inchers and has one won, due to surprise attacks. I don't know if I take him out, if he will beat up my warmouths.

Well everyone, thank you for reading my dilemma and your suggestions will be appreciated.

The green sunfish will pretty much rule whatever tank they are in, especially if they are the biggest in the tank, so I would worry if you put him with the warmouths. It sounds like the bluegill are the problem, if I were you I would take them out.

Cooler temps and additional cover will help.

I wouldn't go down in temp, with some of the sunfish this can create more activity and aggression as they may falsely believe it to be spawning time. If anything go up a slight bit (depending on where you are right now with it), the higher oxygen could make them slightly more sluggish, more cover will definitely help. You could also try to add some dithers to try to spread the agression.

Sunnies are spring breeders. Rising temps trigger spawning. Also, cooler water will slow their metabolisms. They reach a peak of activity in the 70s and 80s F. Temps below that result in overall less activity, while leaving them healthy. Temps above that may slow them down but will also cause health problems.

Yes but in some cases a higher temp such as a summer time temp for them can equal sluggishness but like you said be careful not to over do it. There are some cases recently discussed here http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=362813 that lowering the temp brought the aggressiveness out. I will say from my past experience that the OP couldn't go wrong getting the temp up to around 78-80 f and add some dithers. But we all know that some fish just don't react as others do.

I would say separate the Warmouths since they're the smallest. The Green can most likely hold his own against the BGs. Only problem would be losing the warmouths as distractions and the fights between the bigger guys will become more frequent. Depends on the fish
